Just burn it

One of the things that I noticed when I arrived in India is that there is trash everywhere. There are random piles on the side of the streets that the cows seem to enjoy eating out of. Small piles in front of houses. Trying to be somewhat conscientious about my waste, I was a little uneasy about dumping my trash can from my room in a pile on the road. So, I asked a nice-looking lady who was outside my building, what I should do with my trash.

Burn it.

And then she walked off.

I still have a full trash can in my room. But I was thinking about how great it must be to be a kid in India. No offense to my parents, but if I could have spent my childhood playing in traffic, riding bikes with no helmets and being encouraged to burn trash. Does it get much better than that?

Luckily, for the environment, I found a garbage truck on campus. Maybe I'll save just a little to burn outside my house...

By the way, it was a banner day in the wildlife department. I'm adding donkeys and mongooses to the list! Or is it Mongeese?
